About JeepJT.com

JeepJT.com is devoted to news, information, and all that is happening with the Jeep JT. Right now the JT has only been introduced as a concept vehicle. Jeep has brought out Jeep trucks in the past that drew quite a bit of public support, but in the end the chose not to produce them (Gladiator). This new Jeep JT looks very promising, and has a great look to it, and is receiving tremendous press. So lets hope they build it! Leave your comment and let them know you want to see the Jeep JT hit production.

It’s about time you decided to build it. Can hardly wait.

  2. Jason Schmidt on 08 Jun 2007 at 7:10 am #

Can’t wait. The only change that I would suggest is moving the tire from the bed. I liked the tire on the side concept. If it is being sold as a work truck then having an empty bed is what people need, the way it is now looks like only for weekend fun.

It’s about time. I have been a Jeep owner for years. Even owned a 1948 Jeepster. My wife likes the JT, but would want a sun-roof. Will anything be done to strengthen the JK frame to truly give the JT a good backbone? Rumor on the streets is that the JK frame may be a little light for true off-roading.

I hope this one makes it to production.

    Thanks for allowing input.

  4. B. Smith on 10 Jun 2007 at 10:24 am #

If you build it, they will buy!

  5. E.L. on 12 Jun 2007 at 11:30 pm #

That’s what jeep needs to do, focus on good practical vehicles and drop the rest of the line, thay need to stop selling cars, building a truck in an avalilable platform is the best thing to do, adding an extra foot or so to the back of the bead will be a nice addition, maybe an option for some one that needs the truck for real work.

  6. Chuck on 15 Jun 2007 at 10:22 pm #

I say keep it just like it is. There are plenty of other small and “mid-size” pickips with larger beds. You gotta love the departure angle. A larger bed would just screw that up. Where do I send my deposit??!!

  7. Jon on 26 Jun 2007 at 8:16 am #

I love it. I hope this one makes it. The only reason I don’t have my Jeep (that I miss) is it wouldn’t haul my boat. Let the sky open and the R&D guys see the light on this one.

  8. William Gentry on 26 Jun 2007 at 7:38 pm #

This is the best thing yet……I’ve looked at the AEV Brute and then saw the JT in JP magazine. Who can I place an order with. I just want the manual transmission.

Jeep, PLEAE MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

  9. Whfrat on 02 Jul 2007 at 5:38 am #

Sadly, common sense and public opinion seem to have little influence on the “deciders” in Detroit.

The JT is a great rig. I myself would like to see a longbed version, 6.5′ and put a tailgate on it vs a door. Then you have something you can actually use.

The 4.7 V8 and the CRD would be great engines as well.

And if you guys really get brave…you can drop the Dakota and bring back a fullsize Jeep J10.

  10. D.Standley on 02 Jul 2007 at 11:49 am #

Build it and they “WILL” come from everywhere.
and please let it be available with the CRD engine.SWEET!!

  11. Robert O'Brien on 02 Jul 2007 at 9:00 pm #

I have been waiting forever for Jeep to come out with a “capable” pickup. Why not put the tire on the tailgate though?

    Thank you

  12. Jason on 04 Jul 2007 at 12:40 am #

If you build it, they will buy. I’m too poor to buy food, and I’d buy one. Just make sure it has an available manual transmission and a real transfer case with a low range. Move the spare tire to the side of the bed. Give it a truck-like tail gate with metal slats for support…none of this cable BS they use nowadays. Give it some stout axles and frame reinforcement so it can haul and tow. That would make for the ultimate jeep. In addition to going anywhere, you can also do anything.

  13. vrobo on 05 Jul 2007 at 10:42 am #

Put the CRD in it and I’ll put a deposit down NOW.

  14. vrobo on 05 Jul 2007 at 10:43 am #

also needs a proper tail gate.

  15. Jeff on 06 Jul 2007 at 4:02 pm #

All the industrial designers at my work really dig this thing. Because it shares so many parts with the Wrangler, I imagine they could get a good return on their investment. If Jeep could produce a baseline model for $17,000 they would have a real hit!

  16. admin on 09 Jul 2007 at 11:21 am #

Jeff, I agree. They should make a very base model at low cost, it would be a big hit.

  17. Vince A. on 09 Jul 2007 at 9:53 pm #

Build the diesel version. Keep the price reasonable.

  18. EJ on 10 Jul 2007 at 6:36 pm #

I want one! Surfing the web, looking for my next car to buy, landed on the site and knew with one look that instantly this was the vehicle I wanted, no test drive needed, no sales pitch, don’t even care what the cost is, I was ready to sign. Then I find out it’s a concept and may just be a figment of my imagination. I am disappointed and I know whatever vehicle I end up choosing will be second place because nothing can beat this. I love the Gladiator too.

  19. Shortty on 13 Jul 2007 at 12:34 am #

Hellooooooo???? Built this rig boys!! I have been a life long Ram pick-up driver with the wife driving the new Jeep models. There WILL be 2 Jeeps in my drive if this gets built. I WILL send my deposite ASAP!! Thanks so much!! Shortty

  20. Ryan on 15 Jul 2007 at 6:06 pm #

I will buy one when these are released..the only thing i would change is black tire wells instead of white…also the spare could be moved to the tailgate if it was up to me…and if possible a 5.7 hemi under the hood..

  21. Scott on 16 Jul 2007 at 3:15 pm #

This is a great vehicle if only new heads of Chrysler will see what we see! I have e-mailed the company and you should as well. They need to know that a market for this type of vehicle exists. I for one would make this my next vehicle purchase if it becomes available. The total overall usefulness of this vehicle is amazing. I do not need a full or even a mid-sized truck. A small off road capable vehicle with a truck bed is exactly what I have been looking for.

  22. D. Collier on 17 Jul 2007 at 11:03 am #

I love it !! I’d buy one today if they were producing it. And the nice thing about it, is that it uses current off-the-shelf parts which could easily make this truck do-able.

  23. Al Stickle on 18 Jul 2007 at 9:22 am #

For once, let there be a car/truck company that listens to the users of the vehicle, not a bogus “focus” group!

BUILD IT! As it is shown (move the spare someplace), 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel with manual transmission, manual transfer case, and the plain steel wheels shown. Base model gets a/c and a decent am/fm/cd. It doesn’t need every damned widget under the sun in it, or 16 cup holders, or the power ashtrays, etc…

As has been stated, price it reasonably ($17k’ish) and get my deposit, plus watch them fly off the lot.

  24. Chuck on 19 Jul 2007 at 1:06 pm #

I stumbled onto the JT when I was looking for a new truck, then suddenly disappointed when I found out it was only a concept. THe suits at Chrysler better wake up and get this one to the show room quickly. The Gladiator was great, then scrapped for whatever reason. If they build it, it will sell. The only thing they need is to move the spare to the side like my Willy’s 3B and they’ll be set. If they could put a diesel in it that would be great but not necessary.
How do we got in touch with the suits at Chrysler and tell them to wake up and see the light?

  25. Jerad Tittel on 19 Jul 2007 at 3:59 pm #

I have owned several jeeps and am a big fan of the CJ-8. I like the JT concept but think it would look better with more rear overhang like the CJ-8. A Rubicon option would be a must, although I probably couldn’t afford it. I also like the ideas mentioned above; diesel engine and side mount spare.

As a family man, a rear seat option and removable top like the CJ-8 would make it more practical. I thought I would like the Unlimited, but I like the JT concept much better. If the JT goes into production in 2009, I might rethink my plans to invest a ton of money in my CJ-8.

  26. B. Selle on 21 Jul 2007 at 2:37 am #

I’m gonna jump on the bandwagon with all the ‘above’ who want to see this actually get produced. Its apparent that a lot of us Jeep fans have been awaiting something just like this as we’ve been crossing our fingers for too long! And yes, I would buy one tomorrow!

  27. B. Davis on 31 Jul 2007 at 10:31 am #

I was at Camp Jeep this past weekend and saw the JT. It looks great!!!! I would own one in a heartbeat, but agree that they need to move the spare

  28. Yeti on 01 Aug 2007 at 10:39 am #

    Would love to have one.
    Move the spare.
    Real tailgate.
    Diesel option.

One real request that I haven’t seen yet: Fully mechanically engine. Your true market for this vehicle is going to be the your guy who doesn’t need a full size truck for his loads. He is going to want to play in it. He doesn’t want to worry about frying his computer chips if he hits that pond (like you all haven’t tried it before - lol) the wrong way.

Guys(& Girls) who buy this will want it as a crawler or a mudder, they want it not as a ‘true daily driver’ but as their fun vehicle. Re-enforce that frame, let it be able to tow something.
Not a single person buy this will be worried how ‘fast’ it will go, they will think more of what challenges can I overcome with it.

  29. Mark on 09 Aug 2007 at 1:21 pm #

How and who do I contact at Jeep to convince them to produce the JT. I called
my local Jeep dealer and he said that corporate really takes interest input from the consumer now instead from the dealers. Obviously this makes sense. Phone numbers, e-mail addresses and mailing addresses would be required. Today I called Jeep Chrysler and got the standard answers but a request was entered. But this is a weak approach. If this vehicle is going to be produced we all need to have a more concise and organized approach.

Mechanically I hope they use 44’s front and rear with some sort of locking device and the frame will be fully boxed with a good cross over steering design. When I called the dealer yesterday he told me that the 4 cyl diesel engine that was offered in the Liberty is no longer avaliable. Therefore the only disel engine in the whole Jeep lineup is the Mercedes Benz built 3.0L V6 engine found on the Grand Cherrokee. I hope they install that engine in the JT = 376 pounds-feet of torque at 1,600-2,800 rpm, as well as 215 horsepower at 3,800 rpm. It looks like the block and heads are alumunum which means that they must be using iron liners for the cylinders. If so then this engine could weigh in at about 400 to 500 pounds max.

I agree with a folding down tailgate and I would hope the the cab will be a hard top with no sun roof / canvas setup like the Gladiator. For the past 20+ years I have been a 2nd gen Toyota 4X4 pickup man. That truck has been the best small 4X4 pickup on the market period especially for the kind of roack cawling that I do in Nevada and Utah. I have used parts from Marlin, All Pro, DOA racing etc. Up until the JT no other truck that has come on the market in the past 20+ years can match its strenght, depenability and capability. Toyota has gone away from its mini truck roots and has gone mainstream. The JT in my opinion could be a contender to compete with the old Toyota pickup which has served me faithfully for 2 decades.

The fuel situation in this counrty will never go back to the days of $1.50 - $1.65 PG Premium like is was back in 2001. Diesels and very small and very high efficent gas engines are the future. I hope Jeep understabds that and puts the aformentioned diesel in the JT.

  30. mark on 10 Aug 2007 at 2:04 am #

Previously not a hugh fan of Jeeps but if this model comes to Australia I will be the first in line with cash in hand! Brilliant design! Make it happen!

  31. Bruce on 14 Aug 2007 at 4:05 pm #

I like it! I also like the idea of a diesel option - would make a great play truck as well as a daily driver.

  32. nelson on 14 Aug 2007 at 5:05 pm #

I have a H2 recovery vehicle, an XJ, and if they make this truck with the CRD, manual trans, 4:1 low t-case, locking front and rear dana 44’s it would be the king of the off road because it does not have all the fat that current trucks have. I would buy one and make it my H1 recovery vehicle.

  33. Kevin on 16 Aug 2007 at 6:10 pm #

DO IT! Forget the JT nameplate. We have too many alpha character names now! Name it the Gladiator. If the guys at Chrysler can’t see what we see in the Gladiator, at least get this thing rolling. They’ll see in a matter of a few months they should’ve went with the Gladiator concept to begin with. Jeep needs to get back into the truck segment. The cute utes are a hit in that segment, but the truck segment needs some good mid-size competition. Toyota owns it - let’s take it back! Build it and I will speak for the masses it will sell faster than you can make ‘em!!! All that being said, make it more practical. The bed needs some work…it’s too shallow and not long enough. Get rid of the swing away tail gate and put a real tailgate that drops down. Move the spare to either the tailgate or really doing something original….um, the side of the bed? Make it out class the comp w/ the 4.7L motor or the CRD as an options, leaf springs in the rear for hauling and towing and use the Rubicon Unlimited JK as the platform. What are you waiting for?

  34. Chad on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:08 am #

US “Big 3″ - take heads out of A**

JEEP BUILD THIS TRUCK! Prefer CRD, man, 4:1 and 44’s but I’ll swap in new drivetrain if needed - just build it.

  35. Matt on 04 Sep 2007 at 11:44 pm #

I wish they would build the Gladiator first and foremost. But I would gladly settle for a JT!

  36. Ben on 09 Sep 2007 at 2:21 pm #

I like it, but there could be some improvements:

I dislike the way that the bed is a complete piece with the rest of the cab. it looks way too much like a suzuki samuri.

put a true bed on it, including a real tailgate. Find a new place to put the spare tire…a full bed is a useless bed.

Just by looking at it, it looks like there is a huge blind spot on the pillar between the rear window and the doors.

I wish I wish I wish that jeep would come out with a competent pickup style vehicle. if anybody can do it, i have faith in Jeep

  37. Matt on 11 Sep 2007 at 12:10 am #

i agree ben…put the spare on the side….use the jk wrangler platform, add leaf springs like in the military prototype, but add a separate bed with a drop down tailgate and PRESTO…I’d buy one…To be honestI could live with the unibody/bed structure as long as they relocated the spare, put a drop down tailgate on it, and added leaf springs.

  38. Abe on 11 Sep 2007 at 11:49 am #

The JT would definitely be a hot seller. But add the option of a CRD and extended cab with a longer bed and people will standing in line to buy this truck. I’ll be one of those prospective customers in that waiting line. PLEASE PLACE THIS TRUCK INTO PRODUCTION.

  39. Bert de Waal on 11 Sep 2007 at 8:07 pm #

I’ll buy whatever truck jeep builds, JUST BUILD IT! Gladiator, JT, whatever, I’m there!

  40. Matt on 12 Sep 2007 at 11:05 pm #

Has anyone seen or heard of a Jeep JT brochure? I have one for the Gladiator, just wondered if there was one in print for the JT.

  41. bob morane on 14 Sep 2007 at 7:10 am #

Is it official ?? Can i wait for it? Here (in france) Pick up trucks just start to be a real crazinness JUST SELL IT !!

  42. Matt on 18 Sep 2007 at 6:20 pm #

Has the JT debuted at SEMA yet? What about at NAIA? When are those shows? Isn’t SEMA in September?

    Just wondering about the reaction.

  43. Matt on 19 Sep 2007 at 7:16 pm #

Today (Sept. 19, 2007) Jeep officially announced the production of the military version of the JK Wrangler today. 2 door and 4 door–both on the same frame….so the 2 door has a cargo bed. Put a aftermarket fiberglass top on it and you’ve got a JT. Right now being offered to foreign governments……..Maybe they will bring it home to the citizens of the US……………….

  44. Ant on 25 Sep 2007 at 5:08 pm #

I love the concept on this, diesel all the way though….

thought on the short box, what about a pull out box extender, pull the tail gate down, pull out the extension to accommodate longer stuff if needed, probably a big engineering pain.

otherwise I would buy one in a second.

  45. Jake on 25 Sep 2007 at 10:49 pm #

Someone needs to slap the people at Jeep who decide what concepts hits the road and what dosen’t! Im restoring a 1949 Jeep Truck and 2009 I plan to be done with it. Now it would be pretty cool to have 2 Jeep Trucks side-by-side with excatly 60 years difference. I’ll buy it if it were under 30 grand, had the spare on the side, a diesal, 5-speed, terra low transfer case, lockers, dana 44s front & rear with 4:10 gears, able to carry at most 800lbs in the bed, tow 6,000lbs, beefer frame, had an inteior thats simple(no fancy power windows, door locks, mirrors, ect), a real tailgate, and every thing else the same as the concept. All I need to know is who to yell at to get one! BUILD IT!! The public has been waiting long enough for a new Jeep Truck!

  46. admin on 25 Sep 2007 at 10:52 pm #

Jake, great comment. I totally agree with you.

  47. Stephen on 08 Oct 2007 at 1:11 pm #

BUILD IT !!!!! Period end of story just build it. I for one would buy one in a minute. Drop one of the lame models they have in the their lineup to build a real Jeep in a pick-up mode.

  48. Scott on 10 Oct 2007 at 2:20 pm #

I’m a happy original owner of a 2000 2-door Cherokee Sport. The reason I still have it is there is nothing else out there I like, plus after 128k trouble-free miles not even as much as a light bulb has burned out. The new 2008 Liberty is a nice effort, but it’s no Cherokee. Jeep, please build this JT! My Cherokee isn’t going to run forever… Or is it? I’m again ready to give you a pile of cash! Give me something tempting to buy!

  49. Jacques on 13 Oct 2007 at 2:48 pm #

Drop the Compass, Commander and Patriot to free up production capacity. Then build lots of JT’s!!

  50. ErrorS on 28 Oct 2007 at 2:50 am #

Most concepts don’t look practical.. cool, but something most people wouldn’t buy.

This is something people would buy! It needs to be built, without any changes. The new Jeeps are horrible, I wont have any decent offroad vehicles to buy in the future.. please build this, it’s great.

  51. Marty on 02 Nov 2007 at 3:10 pm #

    make mine a Diesel !!!

  52. jake on 03 Nov 2007 at 9:51 pm #

i like turtles. build the JT.

  53. LM on 04 Nov 2007 at 1:43 pm #

I’d buy one as soon is it became available. I’d prefer one with a CRD and locking front & rear Dana 44s and manual transmission. I like the small bed size, but would still get one if it was longer.

I went to the Jeep website (”Contact Us”, “NEW VEHICLE INFORMATION”, “Send Us an Email”) and requested information about the Jeep JT. Maybe if enough people bug them they’ll finally get the point.

  54. M.Sullivan on 04 Nov 2007 at 10:33 pm #

I just saw the JT at the SEMA show and loved it right down to the steel wheels. I however preferred your Gladiator concept becuse of the diesel engine, heavier frame and more utilitarian bed design. Put my name on the order list, I have a deposit waiting.

  55. tom gautreau on 07 Nov 2007 at 3:50 am #

would buy one in a minute.
    saw it at sema.
    everyone loved it.

    tom gautreau

  56. Jeff on 08 Nov 2007 at 1:50 pm #

I like the JT idea. I think it could still use some refinement, but I like the idea. The american car market is turning back twards smaller more sensable sized vehicles. Personally I think they should build two small trucks. One being a Jeep with the lift kit and big tires, offroad ready the day you drive it home. The second would be a rework of the M80 concept from 2002. Same platform, but no lift, more pavement friendly tires, etc. They could have an entire catalog of after market stuff for them. Plus with a CRD and a manual they would be very easy on fuel.

  57. ryan m on 11 Nov 2007 at 6:41 pm #

I love it and would buy in a second. The most interesting and buildable concept I’ve seen in a long time.

  58. Matt on 12 Nov 2007 at 12:02 am #

Did they just show this thing recently at Sema because there has been a flood of responses recently?

I wish they would build it with a drop down (conventional) tailgate; find a better place for the spare.

They’re prob. not gonna build it. DaimlerChrysler teased and teased us with a Jeep truck. I wonder if Chrysler LLC has better marketing sense about how strong of a demand for a Jeep truck there is. Especially one with Wrangler styling cues…

  59. Louie on 12 Nov 2007 at 5:20 pm #

I’ll take it as is!!! Motor, Color, Tailgate, Spare Tire, Bed Length. Today ?

  60. General on 13 Nov 2007 at 1:12 pm #

Please, Please, Please!!!!!! Build it!!! I will sell my Liberty and my 1990 wrangler for the JT. It would be the perfect vehicle. Fun in the sun, fun in the winter, fun off road, and also usefull with the pickup bed.

  61. Mike on 13 Nov 2007 at 3:21 pm #

They better build this. The only thing truly “Jeep” anymore is the Wrangler(2dr). Seeing the JT took me back to the first time I saw a Scrambler (CJ-8) on the beach when I was a kid. I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. They should really take a look back to the Scrambler and do a removable hard top complete w/ fold down windshield. It would also be nice to see them have a bare-bones option similar to the current Wrangler X. An absolute necessity though is price point. If they make it into the 18k price range they’ll fly off the shelves, but I fear that’ll be impossible with a diesel option looking at the hefty upgrade to get a CRD in the Cherokee.

  62. Mike on 13 Nov 2007 at 3:49 pm #

OK, so they already have a removable top, but good news. They moved the spare tire to the tailgate. Still a standard JEEP swing out tailgate though. Baby steps. Here’s the SEMA video from motortrend.
    http://www.motortrend.com/av/autoshow/112_0711_jeep_jt_2007_sema

  63. Matt on 21 Nov 2007 at 2:06 am #

    Mike,

If the Wrangler(2door) is a true jeep, then so is the Wrangler(4door). How can improving its utility decrease its “jeepness”?

People said the same thing about the cj-6 and cj-8(scrambler) when they came out.

I, too, though would really enjoy them producing this jt or better yet, a gladiator.

  64. James on 23 Nov 2007 at 2:52 am #

I would buy the JT in a heartbeat. especially if the CRD and manual tranny were available! Please don’t chicken out on producing this sure success!

  65. Casey on 25 Nov 2007 at 11:32 pm #

Wish list: conventional tailgate, CRD, manual, removeable top… but it really doesn’t matter, I’ll buy it if they build it.

  66. bh84 on 30 Nov 2007 at 11:22 am #

Just in case Jeep actually reads this…which I hope they do….Please build this vehicle….it is what Jeep is all about.

  67. RICO Laws on 30 Nov 2007 at 11:00 pm #

    To Matt -
The 4 dr jeep wrangler is FWD standard, decreasing its “jeepiness”
Anyway, to Chrysler, please build this right now. I’ll take it as it is, but it would be nice to have a 6 spd. and a decent stereo standard. I will upgrade it anyway, so just give me slots to shove in some 6×9s a place to put my subs and i’ll buy it if it’s under 17gs-ish. more than that, ill just wait until the next year and buy a new one year old. Either way, you get my fat wad of cash. so just build it. Please.

  68. RICO Laws on 30 Nov 2007 at 11:07 pm #

Oh, and one more thing. I assumed the top and doors were removable because of the Wrangler. But some of these comments said that they weren’t. I don’t know, but if they arent, fix it. Make the top and doors removable. If they aren’t removable, i’m not payin the 17 that i said i would. 15g. So i can make the top and doors removable myself.

  69. LM on 01 Dec 2007 at 5:32 pm #

Oh yes, the doors must be removable. I had just made the assumption they were, too. I wouldn’t even buy one if they weren’t. Then it would just be ordinary.

  70. Matt on 04 Dec 2007 at 1:31 am #

    Rico,
Not FWD standard on the JK 4 door… RWD standard, though the vast majority are 4WD.

  71. RICO Laws on 04 Dec 2007 at 6:36 pm #

    Matt-
You’re right. 2WD standard, my bad. I agree that the 2 dr is more “jeepy” but I can’t explain how. Everyone has a different opinion.

  72. Kyle on 07 Dec 2007 at 4:45 am #

Bah, too many picky people. I’ll take the JT in any form as long as it says Jeep on it. I don’t care about a tailgate or if the doors and top come off (granted, it would be nice), I just want to see this beautiful machine come rolling out of the factory with my name on it. But I must agree that simple is better. Most of us have loved Jeeps since we were old enough to pronounce the name, and they didn’t have power anything back then. So I’m happy with simple. Give me a steering wheel, a seat, and a CRD (had to throw that one in there) and Jeep can just tell me where to pick up my new pickup.

  73. Kyle on 07 Dec 2007 at 4:49 am #

Compass and Patriot…. I hope the designers/advisers of these projects are in the unemployment line, Jeep doesn’t need any more mistakes like these.

Agree keep it simple. The more off the shelf stuff they use, the more likley it is to go into my (and your) garage. Finally a small pickup that can go off road and I don’t have to buy a bunch of aftermarket stuff to get it up off the ground. I drive an 05 Frontier… NISMO my butt. Even after a 3″ lift I’m still draggin where my buddy’s stock JK rides high. The extra wheelbase for a crew cab is a killer as well. This is a true turn key operation which will go over HUGE with my wife (and other spouses as well I’m sure). I hope we hear something soon. I want this vehicle yesterday! Spare location… don’t care, engine - don’t care, tranny - don’t care… Heck I’ll even buy the one SkunkWerks has been thrashin around in as long as sooner is not later.

I saw the beast at Camp Jeep this year, and had a nice chat with one of the product designers. I hope Jeep does build this vehicle as this has been something many of us have wanted for a long time. This would be one of the only true ‘go anywhere’ trucks that is also a convertable.

A small truck like this is a bit of a niche, but that is what Jeep has always done well with. This could easily be the handy second vehicle for many households, and it would be great on those weekend trips to the home improvement centers, or a fun time out off-roading.

I still would prefer a drop-down tail gate and a diesel option, but there is so much more to like about this true Jeep that I would live with the swing-gate and the standard Wrangler V6.

Hopefully Jeep is listening, and please build me one!

is this site going to be updated? new blog posts? news about the JT? i’ve been looking for something like that for a while…

  77. Joe on 10 Dec 2007 at 9:32 pm #

If this thing is really based on the J8 platform, then they should just build the J8 pickup in the US as the JT with an engine swap to meet emissions. If I recall correctly the J8 has a D44 front with JK front suspension, D60 rear with leaf springs and a 2.8 CRD. The 2.8 CRD won’t meet US emissions; but the 3.0 CRD in the WK or the new Cummins 4.2 v6 (2009/2010) which was durability tested in a Durango (with a DOE partnership) would.

I have been holding on to my money waiting for this. I just found out that Hummer is showing the HX concept at Detroit and it may be available as an SUT. Jeep needs to move on this if they don’t want to lose my money to Hummer!

Here we go again… Get everyone excited about a jeep truck and then don’t build it.

No wonder the American car manufacturers are failing. They won’t listen to their customers.

My hat is off to Ford who cancelled the tarus and then after all the customer flack brought the vehicle back. I would not have one.

The new jeep citrus line up……….. Jeep wranglers and trucks with V-8’s. The orange, the mango, the lime, the banana, the apple, the tangerine, the peach. Nice colors.

Like I said I will buy a truck build it

We are a shop that specializes in building Jeep vehicle (mainly Wrangler). One thing to say; Chrysler-BUILD IT & we will buid them up. Keep it simple; straight axles, manual case, small entry level engine, maybe a small diesel, and a mid sized V8. Offer base level body clear up to top of the line with everything available. Lastly, no brainer, base it off of the current Wrangler, for some currently available parts interchange.

  85. Dan Darst on 24 Dec 2007 at 1:52 pm #

keep the diesel for usable low end torque, mount the spare on the roof, give it a usable tail gate, have military axles as an option.

  86. Open Channel D on 25 Dec 2007 at 2:23 am #

    Dan Darst,
You nailed it. Also, it will sell way more units with a diesel and smaller tires without the lift kit. Make those an upgrade option and they’ll cover the nut on the base entry model.

This is freakin’ PERFECT for my ranch in AZ. I’m sick of hauling water in a Mahindra tractor!

  87. Mark on 30 Dec 2007 at 8:45 pm #

Also I would like the interior to be bare bones as well. No carpet, vinyl or rubber floor covering, and make the dash with the old round gauges. One reason I have not purchased a new Jeep (and continue to drive my old reliable Jeep with a million miles) is the new ones are too dressed up. There are a lot of “Jeep Guys” who want Jeeps.

If they build it and price it right I will have one. I already have the money put back.

    Mark

I think the JT is a great idea. Please made it in several cab configurations. I would like an extended cab version if you will. The extra space behind the seat is really needed.

  89. John on 02 Jan 2008 at 11:42 am #

Build it Jeep! Make mine a 3.0 CRD w/air, 5 spd, 4.0 transfer, manual hubs, improved D44’s front and rear, no carpet, no power convenience group, and a pickup tailgate.

I’m not crazy on the unibody design of the JT. Give me a Jeep Gladiator. Don’t like the long wheel base on the Gladiator? Why not get rid of those useless seats in the back. And move the spare to the tailgate. That’s what i would jump in line for.

  92. shane on 07 Jan 2008 at 11:01 am #

my bet is that we’ll know in about 4 days whether or not they’re gonna build it. the 2009 dodge ram debut is on the 13th, i believe, so i’m sure they’ll unveil it (if they decided to put it in production) around that time. i’ve been waiting to know the outcome of this since i first saw the JT in moab, back at easter jeep safari!!!

Im a big jeep fan, but sadly got rid of my 88 YJ while i’m goin’ through school for an economy car due to repairs and gass. I’m no fan of the JK especially the 4 doors, where is the freedom? Though My YJ’s and CJ’s only get older. My first vehicle was a truck and love the utility aspects of the design. JT J8 what ever you wanna call it you can garuntee i will do everything in my power to attain one even give up my gass milage!

  102. Kendal Hemphill on 16 Jan 2008 at 1:56 am #

This vehicle is long overdue, but there are two things it has to have. The top has to come off (ragtop and removable hardtop preferred), and the tailgate has to fold down, not to the side. No wiggle room on those two points.

    Build it.

  103. Josiah Julin on 17 Jan 2008 at 2:12 pm #

This truck is a very interesting concept. I love smaller pick-up formats and currently drive an extended cab Tacoma. I like the convenience of the space behind the seats. My suggestion would be to add at least 4 to 6 inches of space in an extended cab version. I would gladly give up that distance in bed length if the overall body length had to remain the same.

  104. matt on 18 Jan 2008 at 11:43 am #

    they’ll never produce this, sadly

  105. Billy on 19 Jan 2008 at 2:17 pm #

Have faith Matt, someday they will. As for me, I am not a big fan of the unibody design as someone else said before me, but I still wouldn’t think twice about buying one. I’m hoping there will be other color options besides the flesh color.

  106. Matt on 23 Jan 2008 at 2:12 pm #

I sure hope Jeep builds this one! I currently have a 1988 Jeep Comanche pickup truck, all original, but with 220,000 miles on it, it’s begining to wear out and so I only use it for local trips. Would love to have a new Jeep pickup truck, and this concept looks like a very good one. I would move the spare tire to the side of the bed, and would want mine with a manual transmission and a removable roof panel (either soft or hard is OK with me).

  107. matt on 24 Jan 2008 at 12:19 pm #

i hope they do build it as does everyone else on here, but they’re not going to if they believe they can’t appeal to others besides Jeep enthusiasts or an even smaller group: Jeep Truck enthusiasts–Comanche/Scrambler enthusiasts.

They would have to be convinced it will attract probable Frontier/Tacoma buyers to consider another option.

  108. matt on 24 Jan 2008 at 12:29 pm #

plus if it attracts Wrangler and Dakota buyers, how will that be a good deal for Chrysler?

It might attract some Wrangler buyers(but so did the JK 4 door and it was successful)–but most consider Dakota to be in a completely different segment–not aimed at the same people.

I think if they made the JT/Gladiator/J8 with the correct features (as previously mentioned–conventional tailgate, better spare placement [I liked it on the side of the bed as in the Gladiator concept, but certainly not IN the bed], and an extended cab or even 4 door option) then it could certainly take a chomp at Tacoma/Frontier.

Tacomas attract younger buyers. They look sharp but are practical. A jeep truck that is practical would look sharper and “cooler”!

  109. matt on 24 Jan 2008 at 12:30 pm #

and Jeep has a bullet-proof reliability reputation that rivals Toyota if Chrysler doesn’t drop the ball and decrease quality.

  110. Chuck on 24 Jan 2008 at 9:54 pm #

Speaking as an owner of an 05 Frontier the thing that would get me to convert would be a two door, short bed. I already have a crew cab and think the latest offering by Nissan of an extended bed is a mistake. If I want to haul more than a few small things, I’ll buy a full size truck or pull a trailer. The four door mid-sized truck market is saturated… Produce something that few offer (off-road capable SMALL pickup) and you will see that there is still a market for such a vehicle. My Frontier is nearly paid off and the JT is the only thing that could possibly tempt me to have four more years of payments.

  111. matt on 25 Jan 2008 at 12:14 pm #

i said there should be an extra cab option IN ADDITION to the short cab. Not in place of…
you bought an extended cab at one point in life…someone else who needs a new extended cab might opt for the jeep over the frontier/tacoma….

  112. Mark on 27 Jan 2008 at 10:02 pm #

Y wait just buy a 4 door and step up and convert it. I am waiting to sell my 60th anniv to do just that. http://orlando.craigslist.org/car/531174195.html

  113. robb on 28 Jan 2008 at 12:22 am #

Chrysler announced they would be building a number of wranglers for the US military including truck versions. I assume they’re talking about the JT or a similar version they’ve been building for the Egyptian military for years (leaf springs vs coils).

Hopefully some of these will filter into the civilian market.

  114. Kenny on 28 Jan 2008 at 5:44 pm #

With today’s fuel prices people are probably thinking twice about the huge truck that they just had to have. Throw in a diesel and this truck will sell. I have always been a jeep fan and have always prefered the small truck over the big ones so, I’ll take one.

  115. NATHAN on 28 Jan 2008 at 8:55 pm #

Looks like Hummer is thinking of something similar by adding a 5′ bed with the V8 option to the H3. From what I’ve read, it seems this H3T will make production. Jeep had better compete.

  117. matt on 29 Jan 2008 at 12:42 pm #

It sickens me that jeep(chrysler) will allow Hummer(gm) to beat it to the punch. Jeep has always been first in everything.

    –First SUV(Willys Wagon 4×4)

    —The MB and
The CJ2A inspired a world of imitators…The first Land Rover was inspired by the MB and even made using MB parts. Toyota FJ might as well stand for “Foreign Jeep” as it was almost an exact copy

  118. Jeff on 30 Jan 2008 at 8:01 am #

I am surprised nobody in here has latched on to this.

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/jim-press-chrysler-sees-market-for-very-small-pickup-trucks.html#more-6437

leftlane news has a partial reprint of an interview with jim press were he says that “very small” pickup’s are chrysler’s future. The author of the article noted the M80 as the most likely. However like I posted earlier, I think both the M80 and JT should be brought to market.

  119. matt on 30 Jan 2008 at 12:24 pm #

the most promising news i’ve heard, jeff. much more promising than the production of the j8 military jeep truck.

It is such a no-brainer to us the consumers. I’ve been wondering for a while….WHY WHY WHY are there no compact pickups. Nissans used to have hardbody pickups, Toyotas used to be much smaller; S-10’s were small in their original form. Now that gas prices are hitting the roof, what do automakers do? Make all their former compact pickups into mid-size models.

BUT if they are gonna go back to making compact pickups—-I, for one, will not buy one if the puss it up, shape it like a Saturn, and base it on a car platform or make another Honda Ridgeline.
Please feed my macho perception of myself and make it tough and practical simultaneously. The old compacts (from the 80’s and early nineties did that; see: S-10, Comanche, Ranger, Toyota hilux, Nissan Hardbody…)

The JT is PERFECT. Undeniably tough and competent off road. That what a Jeep is since the MB. Very small(which lend to better fuel economy), nimble….but tough as hell and capable!

Why not put a small diesel in there to stick with our theme, Chrysler? Conventional tailgate, relocate spare(on the side preferably)—-removable roof is GREAT(since its a Jeep)–I would like some form of extended cab also(GLadiator concept) but will buy one without the extended cab (JT)..would do better offroad anyway.
For Pete’s sake Chrysler, listen to the buying public! You listened to us on the 4door Wrangler finally, and uh humm, I believe it has been a raving success.

  120. RICO Laws on 04 Feb 2008 at 11:37 pm #

    Jeff-
because that is the ugliest thing i have ever seen. If that ugly SOB becomes avaliable to the public and the JT doesnt, Chrysler is doomed to failure, which is what it deserves if it doesnt make the JT.

  121. Jeff on 15 Feb 2008 at 2:08 pm #

Okay so the M80 isn’t the best concept. For me, I would take the M80 over the JT. Just my opinion. I don’t really need an “off-road” truck. I just need a compact truck with some guts. Just a little something to drive on the bad days so the Camaro doesn’t get her feet wet.

How about we go back in time just a little farther to 1999. The purely concept never meant for production dodge Power Wagon Concept. If they took that and scaled it down about 40%, maybe that could be a platform mate to the JT.

The one thing that everyone in here needs to realize, is that the Jeep truck market, all be it vocal, is small. There will be more people looking to buy compact trucks for weekend runs to home depot then off-roading. So in order to make a business case for the JT, ChryCo will need to piggy back it on a cash cow. IE another compact truck or SUV most likely under the Dodge brand. So that having been said until there is an outcry from the consumers for such a cash cow the JT hangs in limbo.

Now with Jim Press making comments about small trucks being in ChryCo’s future, maybe they are seeing the market that we all think is there. Now if they can bring to market vehicles that are truely modern and of high quality, we will all be happy. My biggest fear is not that they won’t built them. But rather they built a POS more akin to the early ’80s.

  122. RICO Laws on 21 Feb 2008 at 11:55 pm #

I take back my comment about Chrysler deserving to fail for not making the jeep JT. NOW, they deserve failure for making the Dodge Challenger SRT-8, a rear drive remake of a classic sports car with a 6.1 liter V8 and 425 HP and 420 ft/lbs, only available in automatic.

    It actually makes me sick

  123. Scrambled on 23 Feb 2008 at 10:15 pm #

just got back from the Milwaukee auto show, the JT was there and looking good. If they can get it reasonably close to the concept, I’ll just need to know what to put on the check.

  124. JLT on 25 Feb 2008 at 8:04 pm #

I would definitely buy a JT. Are you listening Jeep? Keep it below $25k and drop a diesel engine in it that could burn commercial or bio and you’d have a winner. I’m a former Jeep owner (2 CJ’s) waiting for you guys to make something exciting that will bring me back into the fold.

  127. Timothy Saeger on 06 Mar 2008 at 5:02 am #

Currently own a 99′ Wrangler Sport and am looking for a nice hauler! This would be my answer! I’ve always been eyeing the AEV Brute conversion and this thing would be it for me!

How cool would that be to be able to go on any obsticle and have the utility of a pickup! WOWOW!

  128. matt on 06 Mar 2008 at 1:43 pm #

why not build it with all the configurations that the wrangler unlimited has: regular 4wd(affordable); Rubicon 4wd; and 2wd. An extended cab would be great. AT LEAST offer a BENCH seat option with a pull down console/armrest with center seatbelts so 2 adults and one child/very small person could ride.

Glad to see they put the spare on the tailgate…wish they could engineer that tailgate to drop down(conventional style)…if not it’ll do as is….

  129. Tommo on 12 Mar 2008 at 6:59 am #

You guys have not figured this out yet?? AES the guys that designed the Bute are holding the cards on this one. They designed it, jeep likes it but The Brute folks are going to recover their investment plus profit and then sell the design to jeep and manufacture the components.

Build it with the 2.8L CRD, or the 3.0 Turbo-Diesel, make the Tail gate a more conventional style, and leave off all the bells and whistles that nobody wants or needs for a work truck, and I’ll definitely buy one. No Diesel, no deal.

  140. Ben on 01 Apr 2008 at 10:56 am #

It’s a fricken unibody?!? I thought this was supposed to be an offroad capable turck?!?

  141. matt on 01 Apr 2008 at 11:17 am #

Ben, Wranglers are unibodies. Humvees are unibodies. Land Rover Series and Defenders are unibodies. How will it being a unibody diminish its offroad capability? It is still body on frame. Its not a crossover from a car platform. It’s an unlimited wrangler with the rear doors welded shut.

The Honda Ridgeline is a crossover with a car platform (frontwheeldrive) underneath. I think that is the type of vehicle you are thinking of, and I share your disdain for that type of vehicle being called a truck.
However, the JT has a TRUCK chassis. So what if the bed and the cab do not have a split between them?
It’s the drivetrain and chassis that determine a vehicle’s capability and toughness.
For that matter, you could mount a Camaro body on a Z71 or FX4 chassis and have an offroad capable vehicle. It’d be ugly as hell though. And just wrong. As wrong as calling the Ridgeline a truck. Hey, I think I could make a better case for the Camaro Z71 being called a truck than a Ridgeline! It’s not just the bed/body that makes a truck a truck.

Mikey Mule, where do you get your info??

  142. Tim on 01 Apr 2008 at 9:20 pm #

I will give my teenage son my JK, after I spend $8,000 on upgrades, just to buy a stock JT so I can spend another $8,000 on it! Make it a 2010 model and its done, thats when he gets his license!

    Come on Jeep…… BUILD IT!

  143. Don Gillis on 06 Apr 2008 at 8:13 pm #

I have always been a Jeep (Wrangler) fan for years. I currently, have the 08 JK Unlimited, and something like this is ideal for the usage other than the off roading aspect of the Jeep Truck, i.e. hitting the market for food, beer you know the good stuff. If this truck can do what my JK can do I am SOLD!!!! IF YOU MAKE THIS I WILL BUY IT!!! Jeep is one of the best off roading/ everyday use vehicles on the PERIOD!!! I have owned I few, and have even weeded out a BMW, and an Excursion because of how great the Jeep really is. When can we as buyers look get one of these, or even in a Biodiesel engine setup?

  145. Jeff on 11 Apr 2008 at 12:52 pm #

Found this little tid bit over at left lane.

    April11

“Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off a new range of four-cylinder diesel powerplants on Thursday. While most enthusiasts think of the SLR or AMG Black Series when they think of Mercedes-Benz performance, the new engine range promises to return above average performance while lowering the brand’s overall emissions and fuel economy.

The new range of 2.1L engines — which Mercedes began testing back in 2005 — will debut in the C-Class this fall. The powerhouse of the new family of four-cylinders will be used in the C 250 CDI. Thanks to twin-stage turbochargers, a more efficient exhaust system, intercoolers and a new fuel induction system, the range-topping 2.1L produces 204 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are good enough to propel the C 250 CDI from a standstill to 60 in 7.7 seconds, yet the oil burner still returns 46 mpg.

Lesser C-Class diesel models will use the same 2.1L engine but with varying levels of power. The C 220 CDI will boast 170 horsepower while the 200 CDI will do with 136.

There are no current plans to bring the new engines to the U.S., but if Mercedes sees early success with its BlueTec diesels here, there is a strong chance the 2.1L mill will find its way across the pond.”

Since there is a sharing of brains agreement between ChryCo and the former German Masters, maybe this could be the first look at small diesels for a compact pickup. Besides nothing offsets R&D cost like mass production.

  149. Scott on 14 Apr 2008 at 5:58 pm #

    Ben;
It does have a regular frame underneath it, like the Wrangler.

  150. Brian on 14 Apr 2008 at 7:28 pm #

I would buy one in a heart beat i like the tire on the side look and the tail gate should open like a truck not a jeep wrangler. but everything else is a good looking.

Build it!!! I have wanted a wrangler ever since before they were called that! The JT will be the best thing ever made from Jeep! Keep the Dana 60 from the Egyptian Jeep! Somebody give us a Cummins Turbo Diesel too!

I have a jeep comanche and toyota tundra for light hauling if they made this beautiful machine i would sell both in a second for a deposit on one of these bad boys. A rubicon package with the CRD and ill sell my house and sleep in the back. Shutdown production of the Compass and make these and I wont regret the Jeep tattoo on my back.

I have a CJ, TJ, and an XJ and i must say that the look of the newer jeeps has not yet done a thing for me. The JT however is what i could really use. I cannot believe It has takin this long for jeep to get a little more serious about putting out another truck. Every Jeep i own i purchased used but if they would start production of the JT well then it looks like i will have the first car payment i have had in a long time!
